Teeth Whitening

Which Teeth Whitening Solution Is Best For You?

Bleaching, also known as teeth whitening, is the process of brightening or whitening stained, discoloured, or dull teeth through an application of a specially formulated gel. This can be done at our practice or in the comfort of your home.

Teeth whitening is a simple, safe and effective method of achieving a whiter and brighter smile. Before you have any teeth whitening treatment, you must be in good oral health.

Leichhardt Dental and Haberfield Dental will assess the health of your teeth and gums and advise you of the best technique for you to achieve a brighter more confident smile.

ZOOM! In-chair Whitening

ZOOM! in-chair teeth whitening is very popular because it’s safe, fast and results can last for years.

It is the perfect solution to brightening teeth for people who have a busy life, want results quickly or just don’t want to be bothered spending time at home placing gel on their teeth. Many of our patients might do it before a holiday or important event, or just to lift their spirits, like a new hair style may do.

A  formulated gel is applied to your teeth and then this is exposed to safe LED light. The light exposure activates the ingredients in the gel which then break down years of stains and lighten your tooth enamel. This is a usually a pain free procedure, but some patients may feel a slight discomfort and warmth from the light. This is always discussed before any treatment is done, so you know what to expect.

Whilst it is impossible to know just how white teeth will become, rest assured that all teeth will lighten and brighten. The entire procedure takes approximately 1 hour.

Brighten Your Smile As You Watch TV

Although in-chair whitening at Leichhardt Dental and Haberfield Dental is very popular, many of our patients prefer to brighten their smile in the comfort of their own home at times more suited to their busy schedule.

For these patients, Leichhardt Dental and Haberfield Dental offer a similar but less concentrated gel which is applied at home in customised whitening trays that look like thin mouthguards.

These trays fit precisely over your teeth and are worn for various periods from as little as 30 mins to overnight, depending on the type of gel. The active ingredients in the gel will gently whiten your teeth over a period of approximately 14-21 days.

It’s very important to follow the instructions from Leichhardt Dental and Haberfield Dental exactly, as using too much gel or wearing the trays for longer than you’re supposed to can cause gum irritation or tooth sensitivity.

Although the results can last for some time, teeth whitening is not permanent, and will need to be redone at various intervals of time to maintain a bright smile.

Teeth whitening is only effective on natural tooth enamel. After a whitening treatment many Leichhardt Dental and Haberfield Dental patients choose to replace fillings, crowns and other restorations so they match the colour of their new brighter smile.

*** It’s important to note that before undergoing any teeth whitening treatment, your oral hygiene and dental health needs to be assessed to ensure you are suitable and optimum results can be achieved. You must have had a check-up and professional dental clean at Leichhardt Dentists in the last 6 months or you will be required to have one prior to commencing any whitening treatment.
